Housing in South Kildare: Housing is a constant problem in South Kildare from; social housing, to planning permission and unfinished estates. Sinn Fein representatives are actively working in South Kildare to make sure the houses which we were sold or were moved into by the Council, are fit for purpose. Cllr Thomas Redmond was the first Councillor in South KIldare to demand that his own estate, The Coneyboro, be returned to proper condition. 

 

Parks and Playgrounds: Cllr Redmond is working with all agencies to make sure the South Kildare area is not left behind when it comes to proper playground facilities.  Put simply, areas where families can go and don’t have to spend money.

 

The Library Service: South Kildare is one of the county’s most affected areas regarding the library service closure on a Saturday. Cllr Redmond has campaigned for the last number of years for reopening the service on a Saturday and making the very good library service a family service again.

 

Men’s Health: Men’s health has been a reoccurring theme since Thomas was elected to the position of Councillor. Thomas has used his position to highlight to men, the gender specific problems that affect many and has brought some of the most famous health professionals to the county to discuss this in a free manner.

 

Businesses and Employment: The points are not numbered because they are all very important, but employment here in South Kildare must be a first priority to cease the drain and thus the emigration of our loved ones from our country. It is not sensationalism but the fact is, many of my school friends have emigrated, many of my family were also forced to and what’s left is, a government offering yellow pack job schemes and internships. I am totally against making someone do a course that will have no influence on their chance of employment.

To me, this is simply a strategy to massage the live register figures and hide the reality! I am actively working with the new agency that was FAS and the VEC, to develop real and positive courses that enable people to gain employment from.
