Janurary 2011

Councillor Thomas Redmond‘That Athy Town Council calls on all public houses to have ash trays outside their premises to help reduce littering on the public streets’.

 

‘That this Council along with relevant agencies find out and prosecute the cause of the fish kill earlier this month in our canal. And also support our local fishing club by offering them assistance in relation to the clean up and re-stocking’.

 

Feb 2011 motions

1.That we, as a Council, call on the Government to draft legislation to regulate so called ‘cash for gold’ shops, as there is none currently’.

2.That we, as a Council, look at the current development at Gallow Hill from a safety point of view’.

March 2011motions

1. Councillor Thomas Redmond‘That we, as a Council, seek to make Athy a more conducive location for employment and recognise that a rates cut for new businesses employing more than one person is needed in 2012. Planning will make this motion a reality and will create jobs. I am proposing that we cut rates completely for year 1 and operate a sliding scale for the first 5 years for such businesses’.

2. ‘That we, as a Council, engage proactively with the owners of St. Patrick’sNational School in their plans for future development at this location, given that the school is relocating to the new education campus’.

3. ‘That we, as a Council, clean up the back of the houses on the GeraldineRoad for the local residents’.

 

April 2011

1.That we, as a Council,  offer assistance in any way we can, to helping to facilitate a Narcotics Anonymous Group in Athy’. 

2.That we, as a Council, call on our local Deputies to immediately review the Inland Fisheries ( fixed charge notice) Regulations, which will have grave consequences for our local fishing tourism sector. These laws are not only draconian, but lack any insight into the fishing. These new fishing rules, signed into law in the dying days of the last Government, are anti-tourism and anti-angling, according to people involved in fishing in Athy’.

6.Councillor Thomas Redmond

‘That this Council make provision for building a skate park at the People's Park, in view of the recent removal of a tree from the park’. 

 

7.‘That this Council request Kildare County Council to investigate the provision of pedestrian crossing points on the Carlow Road’.

 

8.‘That this Council seek to convene a meeting with the relevant statutory and voluntary bodies with a view to jointly working to develop our waterways for the benefit of Athy’.  

 

July 2011

    ‘That Athy Town Council bans all equine husbandry in residential estates in Athy, and ban the riding or transporting of animals through housing estates’.

 

11.‘That Athy Town Council makes adequate advance preparations for the winter freeze to ensure that the Council has appropriate supplies of salt and arrangements in place to deliver it effectively throughout the town’.
